The Problem
Lake Lorraine, as with many lakes through out our
country are beginning to show the wear and tear of
years of use and unchecked development. For many
years Lake Lorraine has been suffering from a
number of problems such as run off and invasive
plant species (Eurasian Milfoil, Curly Leaf Pond
Weed). Over the past 10 years a number of attempts
have been made to manage the weed problem. But
these efforts have been on an individual basis as
opposed to adopting a whole lake approach.

LAKE LORRAINE FACTS: Lake Lorraine was formed over 10,000 years ago as a
result of the ice age. The lake is one of the many spring fed lakes found through
out the state of Wisconsin. Lake Lorraine is known for its excellent pan and small
mouth bass fishing. It is also one of the best kept secrets in the area with regard to
ice fishing for Northern. In addition to fishing, Lake Lorraine is bordered by a
natural wetland that is home to a number of native North American bird, mammal
and reptile species. The lake is also a natural habitat and breeding area for Sand
Hill Cranes.
Unfortunately due to the introduction of non-native aquatic plant species, chemical
run-off and the lack of a total lake and watershed management plan, Lake Lorraine
is in the process of succumbing to a premature death, several 1000 years before
its time.

In an effort to meet our responsibilities as stewards of the lake, a number of
concerned lake area residents have founded the Lake Lorraine Restoration and
Protection Association, Inc. for the purpose of preserving and protecting Lake
Lorraine, its shorelines and its surroundings, and to enhance the water quality,
fishery, boating safety, and aesthetic value of Lake Lorraine, as a public
recreational facility for today and for future generations.
